[acidophilic cell]
also: acidophil cells or simply acidophils. This is a histological term describing the staining behaviour of cells and not a particular cell type. Acidophilic cells can be stained easily with acidic dyes such as eosin (producing a red colour). Structures and cells staining well with eosin may also be referred to as eosinophilic. Note that structures within the cell that stain with acidic dyes do not necessarily have to be basic in nature. They just happen to be stained with the acidic dye.
