[acinar cell]
Called also: acinous cells or acinic cells. This is a histological term referring to dark-staining serous cells that are organized in acini (singular acinus), i.e., grape-shaped clusters of cells as secretory units. Such structures have been observed in exocrine glands such as the parotid gland and the pancreas. Centroacinar cells are pale-staining cells (see also: clear cells). They are found within the pancreatic acini and form the walls of the duct of an acinus.
