abbr. PETCM. This compound has been identified by Jiang X et al (2003) as an activator of caspase-3 in extracts of a panel of cancer cells. PETCM has been shown to relieve Prothymoson-alpha inhibition of caspase-9 activation and allows apoptosome formation at a physiological concentration of dATP. Elimination of prothymosin-alpha expression by RNA interference sensitizes cells to UV-induced apoptosis and obviates the requirement of alpha-(trichloromethyl)-4-pyridineethanol for caspase activation.
