Alpha-lactorphin (Tyr-Gly-Leu-Phe; YGLF) is a fragment of alpha-lactalbumin and corresponds to alpha-lactalbumin(50-53). Alpha-lactorphin is an inhibitor of angiotensin-1 converting enzyme (CD143) (Mullally et al, 1996).
The peptide has been shown to lower blood pressure in normotensive and spontaneously hypertensive rats (Nurminen et al, 2000). Alpha-lactorphin improves vascular relaxation in adult spontaneously hypertensive rats (Sipola et al, 2002). See also cryptides for bioactive fragments of parent proteins.
Martínez-Maqueda et al (2012) have reported that alpha-lactotrophin is able to up-regulate mucin gene expression
