Also: casein-alpha-s1(16-23). This peptide with the sequence RPKHPIKH is derived from bovine alpha-s1-casein (approved gene symbol: CSN1S1 [casein-alpha-s1]) and occurs naturally in bovine milk. Its physiological function remains unclear, but the peptide has been shown to inhibit cell death by apoptosis of bovine granulosa cells induced by serum-free conditions in a dose-dependent manner, in consequence of caspase-3 and caspase-9 suppressions (Shimizu et al, 2014).
