A large family of antibacterial peptides of approximately 25 amino acids from the skin glands of the Australian tree frog Litoria xanthomera (orange-thighed frog) and the Magnificent Tree Frog Litoria splendida. Steinborner et al (1998) have reported sequence comparisons of the known caerins.
The solution structure and activity of Caerin 1.1 (GLLSVLGSVAKHVLPHVVPVIAEHL) have been reported by Wong et al (1997). A comparison of the antibacterial activities of caerin 1.1 with related peptides (maculatins) has been reported by Rozek et al (1998).
