also: candelabrum neurons. This cell type has been found in silver-impregnated sections of the rat cerebellar cortex (Laine and Axelrad, 1994). The cells are distributed uniformly through all cerebellar folia. The axon shows extnsive arborisation, giving them the form of a candelabrum. It is thought that these neurons are interneurons for neighbouring Purkinje cells. Candelabrum cells are thought to release both glycine and GABA (Crook et al, 2006) and to function as inhibitory interneuron (Ambrosi et al, 2007).
