Catch-relaxing peptide [AMPMLRLamide] is a neuropeptide that relaxes catch tension of the anterior byssus retractor muscle of the marine bivalve Mytilus edulis (common blue mussel). The peptide also modulates muscle contractions in various molluscan muscles (Hirata et al, 1987, 1989). Catch-relaxing peptide has been shown to decrease the slowly inactivating Ca- and the Ca-activated K-currents in snail neurons (Kiss, 1988), and CARP-immunoreactive neurons have been found in the nervous system of the snail Helix pomatia (Hernádi et al, 1993, 1995).
