[CSFV p7 protein] This protein is encoded by classical swine fever virus. The protein has been shown to act as a channel-forming viroporin that enhances the permeability of mammalian cells, increasing the intracellular Ca(2+) concentration and the permeability of cells to the translation inhibitor Hygromycin B (Guo et al, 2013).
Lin et al (2014) have reported that the viral protein induces IL1-beta secretion in macrophages, which can be inhibited by the ion channel blocker amantadine.
