[C-type-lectin-87] This Caenorhabditis elegans protein is thought to have a function in innate immunity, its expression being upregulated in response to infection with various pathogens. Gene silencing confirms that clec-87 has a major role in the defense system of Caenorhabditis elegans during Salmonella enterica servorar Typhimurium infection (Sivamaruthi and Balamurugan, 2014).
