Cytokeratin-15 belongs to the family of structurally related keratins that form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells (for overview see also: Bose et al, 2013). The C8/144B antigen (named after a monoclonal antibody of the same name) has been shown to detect cytokeratin-15 (Lyle et al, 1998). The cytokeratin-15 gene has been characterized by Leube et al (1988) and Whittock et al (2000). Waseem A et al (1999) have shown that cytokeratin-15 is expressed primarily in the basal keratinocytes of stratified tissues, including the fetal epidermis and fetal nail.
