[Drosophila phosphatidylserine receptor] Drosophila melanogaster dPSR is encoded by gene CG5383. Krieser et al (2007) have identified dPSR as a putative receptor for phosphatidylserine. dPSR does not appear to play a role in apoptotic cell engulfment by phagocytes in the embryo. Also, dPSR is localized to the nucleus, inconsistent with a role in apoptotic cell recognition. However, overexpression of dPSR protects cells from cell death by apoptosis, whereas its loss enhances apoptosis in the developing eye. The increased apoptosis is mediated by the Hid [head involution defective] (Wrinkled)
