embryonal carcinoma-derived growth factor
abbr. ECDGF (a term with multiple meanings). This heparin binding factor of 17.5 kDa is obtained from the conditioned medium of embryonal carcinoma cells (PC13 cell line) grown in serum-free medium (see also: SFM).
The factor is a member of the heparin binding growth factor protein family (see: HBGF; see also: gene family). It induces the proliferation of PC13 cells, of its differentiated variants, and also of murine 3T3 fibroblasts. Treatment of PC13 cells with ECDGF reduces the numbers of high-affinity receptors for EGF.
