[equiluminance cell]
These cells (Bushnell et al, 2011) are found in the visual cortical area v4 of the macaque monkey and make up approximately 1/5 of neurons in this area. They are a specialized kind of neurons that show greatest responses near zero contrast and decreased responses as contrast increases. Equiluminance cells are color and shape selective to a degree comparable with other classes of V4 cells with more conventional contrast response functions.
