[fibrocyte-like cell]
This cell type has been identified in the villous stroma of the placenta (Riddell et al, 2012). Morphologically, the cells resemble fibroblasts and express the fibroblast marker TE-7, but the cells also express the monocyte markers CD115 and CD14. Fibrocyte-like cell may play an important role in the regulation of placental angiogenesis. Conditioned medium of these cells contains VEGF, bFGF and soluble flt and increases endothelial tubule-like structure formation 2-fold versus control medium.
