[Growth arrest-specific gene-7] gas-7 is one of the growth arrest-specific genes identified in quiescent, serum-starved NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblasts (see: gas genes). The gene has been identified independently as KIAA0394.
gas-7 (48 kDa) is expressed primarily in vivo in terminally differentiated brain cells and particularly prominently in mature cerebellar Purkinje cells and may be involved in neuronal development. Inhibition of gas-7 production in terminally differentiating cultures of embryonic murine cerebellum impedes neurite outgrowth (Ju et al, 1998).
