abbr. HSA (a term with multiple meanings). The gene encoding this antigen, which is found on the surface of most human B-cells, has been cloned by Kay et al (1991). This antigen is identified by monoclonal antibodies M1/69, J11d, and B2A2 (Kay et al, 1990), all of which recognize the same antigenic determinant (Alterman et al, 1990).
In mice, immature B-cells are distinguished by high expression of this antigen, whereas mature B-cells are characterized by low expression of HSA (Allman et al, 1992).
In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD24.
