[helix-turn-helix motifs]
abbr. HTH motif. The helix-turn-helix motif is detected in many transcription regulators (Brennan and Matthews, 1989; Wintjens and Rooman, 1996; Rosinski and Atchley, 1999; Aravind et al, 2005). It is a ubiquitous DNA-binding motif that is usually incorporated into several structural scaffolds. Proteins containing this motif have been subgrouped into at least 30 different protein families.
The so-called winged helix-turn-helix fold (abbr. wHTH; also: WHD [winged helix domain]) is a structural motif that typically contains a right-handed three helix bundle that defines the HTH motif
