This specific ciliated cell type, (also called peg cells (a term with multiple meanings)) is found in the tentacles of certain ctenophores (comb jellies), The cells are thought to function either as sensory receptors or prey-wounding apparatuses (Hernandez-Nicaise 1974, 1991; Eeckhaut et al, 1997).
