immunoevasins

[immunoevasin]

this is short for immune evasion proteins used originally as a collective term for a set of glycoproteins encoded by cytomegalovirus that interact with MHC class I molecules. These proteins may or may not affect cell surface expression or degradation and thus interfere specifically with the MHC class I pathway of antigen processing and presentation (Wagner et al, 2002; Reddehase, 2002). Both terms may be used also as more general term for any proteins allowing pathogens to evade immune responses by interfering with the MHC system.

The term immunoevasins (see: evasins) has been used also in a more general sense for proteins that alter host immune responses and are instrumental for pathogen survival. Thus, factors that have been described as virus-encoded virokines or viroceptors or chemokine ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
