[kinase interaction domains, kinase interaction domain, kinase interaction motifs]
abbr. KIM. A conserved sequence motive consisting of a cluster of basic amino acids followed by hydrophobic amino acids with the consensus sequence (K/R)2-3X1-6(L/I)X(L/I). It is found in many mitogen-activated protein kinases (Gavin and Nebrada, 1999; Jacobs et al, 1999; Smith et al, 1999; Tanoue et al, 2000, Tanoue and Nishida, 2003). These sequence motifs are important for the interactions between Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), which themselves are phosphorylated by MAPK kinases, and signaling proteins, all of which are involved in specific cellular responses to different extracellular stimuli.
