Two peptides with a sulfated tyrosine residue, termed Lem-SK-1 (leucosulfakinin) (EQFEDYGHMRFamide) and Lem-SK-2 (leucosulfakinin II) (pQSDDYGHMRFamide) have been isolated from the Madeira cockroach, Leucophaea maderae (Nachman et al, 1986, 1986). These peptides belong to a class of neuropeptides structurally and functionally similar to the vertebrate brain-gut peptides cholecystokinin / gastrin (see: sulfakinins).
