lgl

[Lethal giant larvae]; also: l(2)gl [lethal (2) giant larvae]. This Drosophila melanogaster protein, encoded by gene CG2671, has been identified originally as a tumor suppressor protein (Mechler et al, 1985). Lgl is also a regulator of epithelial cell polarity, a function that involves the interaction with a number of proteins (Yamanaka et al, 2003; Plant et al, 2003; Betschinger et al, 2003). Mutation of lgl causes loss of apicobasal polarity and uncontrolled proliferation in imaginal discs (Mechler et al, 1985, Bilder et al, 2000; Agrawal et al, 1995), leading to neoplastic tumor formation. Ohshiro et al (2000) have demonstrated that lgl is essential for asymmetric cortical localization of all basal determinants in mitotic neuroblasts ... ... ... ... ...
