Also: mammosomatotrophs. Abbr. MS cells. This cell type is found in the pituitary gland. It is a hybrid cell type that stores and releases growth hormone (like somatotropes and prolactin (like mammotropes (Frawley and Boockfor, 1991; Kabuto et al, 1995) and may constitute an intermediate stage for the reversible interconversion of these cell types by transdifferentiation (Vidal et al, 2001).
