[mesoglial cell]
This term has been used by Robertson (1900) for a new type of glial cells that do not contact blood vessels. The cells were renamed Robertson-Hortega cells and are known now as microglial cells. In old literature the term may also refer to oligodendrocytes (for a historical overview see also: Rezale and Male, 2002).
