molluscan growth and differentiation factor

This factor is a member of the TGF-beta superfamily. The cDNA has been cloned by Lelong et al (2000) from the bivalve mollusc Crassostrea gigas. The mGDF precursor shows highest homology with human BMP2 and Drosophila melanogaster dpp. mDGF transcripts are not detected early in development but increase markedly before metamorphosis, suggesting that mGDF might play a role in processes allowing larvae to become competent to metamorphose.
