[monster cell]
This term has been used to describe extremely large and sometimes multinucleated cells that may or may not contain hemosiderin. Often, the cells resemble macrophages or osteoclasts.
Monster cells are observed frequently in various types of dermatofibroma and histiocytomas (Tamada et al, 1987; Hatano et al, 1999; Setoyama et al, 1997; Longacre et al, 1993) and most likely represent aberrant macrophages (histiocytes).
