mucin 7

abbr. MUC7. Mucin 7 is a protein of 377 amino acids with no sequence homology with other human or animal mucins and no significant homology to other proteins. The mucin 7 gene has been cloned by Bobek et al (1993, 1996).

The protein is known also as salivary low molecular mass mucin and has been referred to as MG2 (Reddy et al, 1993). Reddy et al (1993) have shown that Mucin 7 has the capacity to bind pili of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Mucin 7 is thought to have protective effects in the oral cavity and to promote the clearance of bacteria (Kirkbride et al, 2001; Rousseau et al, 2006).

Karlsson and Thomsson (2009) have reported that Mucin 7 provides a multivalent scaffold for sialylation and is a major carrier of blood group I type O-linked oligosaccharides serving as the scaffold for ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
