neural cell surface antigen

abbr. NCA (a term with multiple meanings). This protein of 25 kDa has been identified by Deissler et al (1996) by means of monoclonal antibodies specific for neural cell surface antigens. N-terminal sequencing shows that the protein is the rat homolog of the CD9 antigen. In primary cultures of rat fetal brain cells the antigen is expressed by all premature and mature astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, ependymal cells, and microglial cells, but not by neuronal progenitor cells and neurons.
