The term neural stem cells refers to a tissue-specific subtype of self-renewing and multipotential cells that can give rise to all neural populations (neurons, glial cells such as oligodendrocytes, Schwann cells, and astrocytes, as well as non-neural cell types). Such cells have been isolated from embryonic and adult central nervous system. They can be obtained also from embryonic stem cells or stem cells immortalized by expression of oncogenes (Bazan et al, 2004; Campos, 2004; Gottlieb, 2002). Long-term cultures of these cells form clusters termed neurospheres
