This peptide, MVRRFLVTLRIRRACGPPRVRV, corresponds to amino acids 1-22 of p14ARF, a tumor suppressor the expression of which is widely deregulated in many types of cancers and which is believed to function as a failsafe mechanism, inhibiting proliferation and inducing apoptosis as cellular response to a high oncogene load. The peptide mimics the function of the full-lentgth protein (Lohrum et al, 2000; Midgley et al, 2000).
