pIXY321
A fusion protein derived from the coding sequences of GM-CSF and IL3, obtained from a genetically engineered plasmid expressed in yeast cells. The two parent molecules are connected by a short, flexible linker sequence in the fusion protein.
pIXY321 exhibits greater receptor binding affinity and colony stimulating activity than either GM-CSF or IL3 (see also: Colony formation assay). It has been shown to be more potent also on a molar basis than the combination of the two parent factors. pIXY321 allows the stimulation and expansion of multilineage hematopoiesis from immature bone marrow progenitor cells. Clinical trials employing pIXY321 are currently underway in humans.
