abbr. PYY. Also PYY(1-36) [peptide YY(1-36)], PYY-I; called also neuropeptide YY or peptide tyrosine tyrosine. Peptide YY (YPIKPEAPREDASPEELNRYYASLRHYLNLVTRQRYamide) is a hormone secreted from endocrine cells in the lower small intestine, colon, and pancreas (Ekblad and Sundler, 2002; Upchurch et al, 1996) and also in a variety of neurons in different anatomical locations, Langerhans cells, and murine dendritic cells. The hormone was isolated originally from porcine intestine (Tatemoto and Mutt, 1980).
