Periviscerokinins are insect neuropeptides named after neurohemal swellings of the transverse and median nerves known as perisympathetic organs orperivisceral organs, where they are stored and released as neurohormones throughout the cockroaches, although they may have different effect(s) depending on the species (Wegener et al, 2001). Many periviscerokinins share a carboxyl Pro-Arg-Valamide. These so-called PRVamides seem to be restricted to the abdominal ganglia and their perisympathetic organs.
Sequence comparison with Drosophila melanogaster genes show that some periviscerokinins expressed in the abdominal ganglia are encoded by genes resembling the Drosophila Capa gene. They are, therefore, being referred to as
