This term, coined by Li F et al (2010), refers to a pathway of wound healing and tissue regeneration involving executioner caspases in apoptotic cells. The authors have reported that apoptotic cells release growth signals that stimulate the proliferation of progenitor or stem cells. Key players in this process are caspases caspase-3 and caspase-7, which are activated by proteases during the execution phase of apoptosis.
