abbr. PACSR. This term pertains to processes observed in primary hepatocytes shortly after their isolation (Nipic D et al, 2010). Essentially, these changes refer to the translocation of the proform of caspase-9 and BAX from the cytoplasm to the nuclei as well as to a dispersion of mitochondria and are thought to reflect cell stress in freshly isolated cells subjected to tissue culture.
The observed changes appear similar to those at the beginning of apoptosis; however, the isolated hepatocytes are viable and not apoptotic. The authors have proposed that the translocation of the proform of caspase-9 and BAX into nuclei may reduce the ability to trigger apoptosis
