[precursor cell]
this term is used for cells of the hematopoietic system that, in the course of proliferative processes and differentiation (see also: hematopoietic stem cells), have lost their capacity for self-renewal and differentiate only into a single type of mature effector cells (see also: hematopoiesis; for a series of cells eventually developing into T-cells see: DN1 cells, DN2, cells, DN3 cells; DN4 cells). Many cell types that cannot be differentiated morphologically can be defined by the presence or absence of lineage-markers.
