prominin-2

approved gene symbol: PROM2. An alternative designation for Prominin-2 is PROML2 [prominin-like-2]. The gene has been cloned by Fargeas et al (2003) who reported expression in many tissues but absence in the retina, where the related protein prominin-1 is expressed also. The expression of Prominin-2 appears to be restricted to epithelial cells (Jaszai et al, 2008, 2010).

Florek M et al (2007) have reported that Prominin-2 is a cholesterol binding protein associated with apical and basolateral plasmalemmal protrusions in polarized epithelial cells and released into urine. Prominin-2 binds cholesterol directly, localizes to plasma ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
