abbr. trbl. The Drosophila melanogaster gene tribbles (gene: CG5408) encodes a protein that controls the cell cycle by timing of mitosis in the prospective mesoderm (Seher et al, 2000). The fly protein also controls cell migration during embryonic development, acting as a negative regulator of the Slbo [slow border cells] gene, which encodes aq transcription factor required for migration of border cells during Drosophila oogenesis (Rorth et al, 2000).
