abbr. TPI, which is the same as TPI1 [triose phosphate isomerase 1]. This enzyme (EC5.3.1.1) is a homodimeric enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate during glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. The gene has been cloned by Brown et al (1985). Alleles have been investigated by Watanabe et al (1996). For enzyme deficiencies and cDNA/protein structure see also: Maquat et al (1985).
