This term has multiple meanings:
(-1-) insect cells
these cells are found in the insect fat body, a diffuse organ lining the body cavity of insects (Martins et al, 2011). The cells are derived from the mesoderm, are rich in lipid droplets and protein granules, and are thought to play a local role in intermediary metabolism by storing lipids, carbohydrates and proteins (Dean et al, 1985; Martins and Pimenta, 2008).
Note: the term trophocytes may also refer to cells in the insect ovary and thus be used synonymously for nurse cells (Simiczyjew B et al, 1998).
