[tuberculoventral cell]
[tuberculoventral neurons] These cells, called also vertical cells or corn cells, are interneurons in the deep layer of the dorsal cochlear nucleus that inhibit regions of the ventral cochlear nucleus that are innervated by the same auditory nerve fibers (Wickesberg and Oertel, 1988, 1990; Zhang and Oertel, 1993). Tuberculoventral cells receive excitatory synaptic input from auditory nerve fibers and from T stellate cells in the ventral cochlear nucleus and can be inhibited by D stellate cells in the ventral cochlear nucleus (Zhang and Oertel, 1993).
For other types of neurons in the cochlear nucleus see also: bushy cells, octopus cells
