abbr. ventricular NP, also: VNP (a term with multiple meanings). This member of a family of natriuretic peptides with natriuretic and vasodepressor activity has been found in fish, where it has been isolated from eel (Anguilla japonica) cardiac ventricles. The sequence is KSFNSCFGTRMDRIGSWSGLGCNSLKNGTKKKIFGN (Takei et al, 1991). Related peptides are found also in other fish species (for overview see: Nobata et al, 2010). Nobata et al (2010) have reported that ventricular natriuretic peptide causes long-lasting hypotension that lasts much longer than those of ANF and BNP, even though ventricular natriuretic peptide disappears from the blood more quickly than ANF
