Nipah virus V protein |

This protein is encoded in the genome of Nipah virus, an enveloped negative-strand RNA virus of the Paramyxoviridae family. Nipah virus W protein is localized predomiantly in the cytoplasm. The protein shares an N-terminal region of 407 amino acids with Nipah virus V protein, and Nipah virus W protein but has a distinct C-terminal sequence.
The Nipah virus P protein prevents phosphorylation of the STAT1 protein and sequesters STAT1 in the cytoplasm. This effectively blocks signaling of the receptors for IFN-alpha and IFN-gamma.
