madness
Madness is what I call the nomenclature situation. You have just figured out that OPGL, RANKL, TRANCE, ODF, SOFA, murine Ly109 are identical. In comes a nomenclature committee to rename it scientifically as TNFSF11 [TNF ligand superfamily member 11], and then you find out that yet another nomenclature committee has decided to give it a CD antigen designation, which in this case is CD254. "Though this be madness, yet there is method in it" said Polonius, and he was not even aware of the existence of cytokines and growth factors.
