Angiotensin

Angiotensin is a decapeptide (DRVYIHPFHL) (Asp-Arg-Val-Tyr-Ile-His-Pro-Phe-His-Leu) originally found to be produced by kidney-derived renin from an Alpha-2 hepatic globulin, and described originally as an activity termed Hypertensin or Angiotonin. It is known mainly for its potent pharmacological activities. Angiotensin elevates blood pressure through its direct vasoconstrictor, sympathomimetic, and (through release of aldosterone) sodium-retaining activities. Angiotensin plays an important role in the renin-angiotensin system.
