[apolipoprotein A4; apolipoprotein A-IV]; abbr. also: apo AIV, ApoA-IV. ApoA4 is a 46 kDa glycoprotein that has been isolated as a main protein component of human lymph chylomicrons by Utermann and Beisiegel (1979). ApoA4 is a secreted protein; in the circulation it is found on chylomicrons, a fraction is associated with HDL or VLDL, and up to 50 % circulates in the lipoprotein-free fraction (Utermann and Beisiegel, 1979; Green et al, 1980; Wu and Windmueller, 1978; Ghiselli G et al, 1986; Bisgaier et al, 1985). The protein and the gene show structural similarity to Apolipoprotein A1 (Karathanasis, 1985; Karathanasis et al, 1986; Elshourbagy et al, 1987).
ApoA4 is expressed predominantly by enterocytes
