[BIR domains]
[baculoviral inhibition of apoptosis protein repeat] a protein motif that is involved in inhibiting apoptosis (Birnbaum et al, 1994). Proteins containing this sequence motif have been called BIRC (baculoviral IAP repeat-containing protein) and are being referred to also as BIRP [BIR-containing protein]. All belonging to the IAP [inhibitor of apoptosis] protein family share one to three BIR domains, and these are being referred to as BIR1 domain, BIR2 domain, and BIR3 domain.
