[caspase-like apoptosis-regulatory protein] Human CLARP resembles caspase-8 and caspase-10 in structure. The protein contains two amino-terminal death effector domains fused to a carboxyl-terminal catalytically inactive caspase-like domain. The human gene maps to chromosome 2q33.
CLARP can interact with caspase-8 and FADD. Another interactor is RICK.
Expression of CLARP induces cell death by apoptosis, and this process is blocked by a viral inhibitor of caspases (baculovirus p35 protein), dominant negative mutant caspase-8
