FGF22

(approved gene symbol) [Fibroblast growth factor-22] This protein is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family of proteins. The cDNA encoding FGF22 (170 amino acids) was isolated from human placenta. The murine counterpart (162 amino acids) shows 87 % identity at the protein level. FGF22, appears to be a secreted protein and is most similar to FGF10 (approximately 46 % amino acid identity) and FGF7 (approximately 40 % amino acid identity). The human FGF22 gene maps to chromosome 19p13.3.

Murine FGF22 mRNA is expressed preferentially in the skin. FGF22 mRNA in the skin is found preferentially in the inner root sheath of the hair follicle.
